Match Report: AFC Oakley First v Flitwick
Another week and another away game, this time at the always blustery Flitwick Town. Unfortunately, the surface was a long way from the carpet we played on the week before but the Oaks were keen to keep their promising form going. Only one forced change from the previous game, with big Bentham coming in to replace the injured Hukin. However, we welcomed back some class to the side and an incredible bench of Alder, Aidan and Mr Lamberti. Somehow before the game even really got going, Flynn managed to get himself yellow carded. Think it may even be a record!
Oaks were in no mood to mess about and started the game very quickly. It didn’t take long for us to force our dominance with big Dave smashing a left footer from the edge of the box, post and in! Minutes later it was no surprise to see Joe on the floor in the oppositions box and a penalty being awarded. Up stepped Joel and bang, 2-0.
We were now purring and a delightful chip ball from Coxy saw Groom get on the end and volley hard into the roof of the net. 3-0. Not even half time and Dave charges past his man with the ball to coolly slot home and bag himself a first half hat-trick. Class performance. 4-0.
Half time and our back five of Dale, William, Bentham, Harry and Joel were having to do very little defending albeit they were seeing a nice amount of the ball. Having said that, a rare and uncharacteristic mistake by captain Cox on the edge of our box, saw Flitwick steal the ball and pass home what was already to be a consolation game. 4-1
Two minutes in the second half and good work down the wing by Joe M, saw his delightful cross headed home by Aulsburry. 5-1. Five minutes later and Dave finding himself in room in the oppositions box, let his left foot do the talking again to bring his own tally up to four! 6-1
It was time to bring on the cavalry, with Aidan replacing Cox and Lamberti coming on at right back. Also time to give Dave a rest with Mr Robbie Alder coming on to be a target man up top. It didn’t take long for the subs to start making an impact and a classy through ball from G man was chased down by Joe who unselfishly squared the ball to Nathan A to poke home. 7-1. It was then Nathan’s turn to become provider and he returned the favour, setting up Joe to grab a well deserved goal. Could it get any better?!!!
Some excellent combative midfield work led to the ball finding its way to Robbie on the edge of the oppositions box. A drop of the shoulder left the defender for dead and he slammed the ball home to make it 9-1. Just when we thought Oaks were finished for the day, another excellent long pass saw Stu Goals beat the keeper to the ball and take us to double figures. 10-1.
An excellent team performance against a team that was only four points below us in the league. We certainly won’t be getting carried away and look forward to a tougher test in Crawley Green this weekend. COYO
